What did you do to your Avalanche today?

Sorry for the diatribe. I just think that since I have a few trailers and hay racks that are always being moved around that being able to see what's going on before everything gets out of kilter might be a blessing.
I have duel receivers in to the front of my 02 1500 . Makes moving trailers easier and random attachments useful. Winch bumper, plow rig, push bar, Crane, on and on.

@-JRW- Yes the top is part of the grille. You need to pry the outside clips on the powerbar first, then I just stick my fingers in between the grille lattice and gently pry it out. I’ve marked all the clips below.View attachment 237338View attachment 237339View attachment 237340View attachment 237341

Thanks for that!

I guess a good set of nylon pry tools would also come in handy?

It turns out this project may get set back again but who knows? Maybe some of the stuff I have to do I'll get done sooner than later if all goes good and will give me time to work on it. I'm expecting if it all goes as it should it wouldn't/shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to swap the two covers? I guess it'll make it easier if I remove the light housings first?

In the next two weeks I have to rent a mini-excavator to do some work around here and would like to get that done before the grass starts to grow. I also have to get out my old 16" chainsaw and get it fired up and tuned so the excavator has something to do when I get it. I have about three - four hours of tree cutting ( about fifteen 10"-15" tree saplings) along a part of the south edge and one short section of north/south fence line along my hay field that will probably take me a week to accomplish. Then dragging the cuts to the burn pile and wait on the excavator to set them up on top of it. Just a bunch of weed maples (soft wood, not fit for much of anything useful).

Got yet another new battery. The parasitic draw has cooked multiple batteries. At least I have the quick disconnect hooked up from the get go and disconnect as soon as I get home. That should hopefully make it last longer until I get around to finding the draw and getting my cluster repaired (which I suspect is the culprit).
Is this issue common?

The instrument clusters are known to go bad in many of the GM trucks. A side effect sometimes is the parasitic drain as it doesn’t fully go to sleep.

As I type that, I miss the days when an entire car “went to sleep” as soon as I turned off the ignition. Don’t want Christine waking up and coming after me. 🤣

Man learning more and more everyday about the Avy, I had crazy issue with this with a VW beetle so fun stuff.

Reassuring her that she will be ok in the garage as a tornado went right over us after 7 PM. Didn't tell her the garage is probably almost 100 years old!

Someone's picture off our town's FB page.

Reports are that the tornado was on the ground just a few miles west of me, then lifted and went over us less than a mile west of the house. Was reading it may have gone back down again after it passed. Will probably know more tomorrow. Not expecting any big damage.

Just lots of sirens, rain, hail and only a 30 mph wind. There was that eerie calm a few minutes before it's arrival when there was rain and hail just before that and again after it passed.

Whoa! Stay safe man. They are calling for some dicey weather here overnight. Don’t expect this stuff in February, it’s more late March or later that we normally see any of this stuff.

The giant Parkersburg tornado in Iowa went south of us by about 20 miles but it sounded like a herd of runaway freight trains in our front yard. It was a massive wedge tornado.

Just like they say, sounds like a freight train.. I awoke at about 3AM (June of 2010), dreaming I was being sprayed w/ an air hose and to the sound of a freight train.. I got up, closed the window (air hose stopped :D ) Debris was blowing toward my house.. then it all stopped.. then suddenly started all over again, all the debris was blowing away from my house.. then it was done.. Power was out, cell service out, etc.
I checked the yard, a fallen tree was blocking my drive.. missed the cars.. went to get the generator -- to power the electric chain saw.. besides the mess every where I looked, where the H___ is the compost bin.. then I found it in the pool.. NASTY.

Most importantly, we were fine, unhurt and lucky, glad to hear it missed you and yours..

Where I live we've been hit with some serious winds regardless, mostly serious downdrafts causing high speed straight-line wind. One such even was clocked at just over 90MPH for ten minutes straight out of the north, which is good because the trees took the brunt of it and they spared the outbuildings and house but they never recovered.

That episode dropped a neighbors huge (60x80?) classic shaped wood barn just 3/4 mile away like it was a deck of cards. It was reputedly the largest barn in this county and the neighboring county to the east. They used to hold square dances in it when that was a thing. It was in very good shape until that time.

Did all the leather interior with Meguiars conditioner...freshened up my very oxidized headlights with Cerakote (y)
Finally got the fasteners off the back of my weathered bowtie grille emblem and replaced it with a new one...looks like a new
13 year old truck coming at you ....removed the cross bars from the roof rack..( I'll never use them ) and it looks a lot nicer....it was nice out here today in upstate NY....had this for about 3 months now...1 owner North Carolina truck....clean top & bottom 2011 LTZ

Got rid of the AEM Brute Force open air CAI and went with a Volant sealed box

These are the new tie rods from APEX and the SPC Performance upper control arms I had installed when I had the Av in the shop. Apex Chassis also offers a Veteran/Military discount.

Looks nice, I have to get my Volant in, I have the older style I got second hand wit the all aluminum cover, was thinking of making a clear one for it, like those tie rods and upper arms as well.

I have no pictures, but Sunday finally got my driver door pin's in so it shuts like a normal door, and finally got that tailgate latch fixed. For some reason I tried some and they would not work, all the videos made it look so easy finally bought a Dorman and started with center bolt, got it opened all the way first time and it worked, I was like what the heck.....So baby steps.

Took her in today to get some cost estimates on my rear seal, and pan, pushing $2k for that. I have that blown out passenger CAT and I don't want to put my new exhaust on until that is done. Seen someone here mentioned they got both done for around $1200, but $2k ouch I know its all labor. Since exhaust has to be out he said he would just put the new one on when it goes back in........If I have them do it, but me the the bro might have to tackle this, ug........

You sound like me - 1054 miles in last three years. 🙃
Yeah, most of my miles came from GTGs. Its never been a daily driver because I've always had a second and third vehicle.
My insurance company lists it as a RV since I don’t drive many miles, but they make me send a picture of the cluster as proof every year.

After our 1993 Eddie Bauer 4 door Ford Explorer went from being a daily driver to a rarely driven spare vehicle, our insurance also classified it as a recreational vehicle.

I had to sign a form for a couple of years to state the mileage and I guess when they saw less than 200 miles a year on average, they said what the heck and quit sending me the forms to sign.

It went that way for over 10 years or more until I sold it.

As I recall, the monthly insurance charge was $14 or so.

But, it only had liability coverage on it.

If I wrecked it or it got stolen, I would just gain another spot in the yard to start mowing.

I think mine is under 3,000 miles a year and it has to be a running vehicle.

I hopefully made a good decision and purchased a tent for the bed of the truck, new kind of camping for me. I’m hoping to try it out this summer.
I have one in my Amazon shopping cart for my daughter's. Let me know how it all works out.

I recently bought a '02 over a year ago for my daughter to start her 2nd year in college with. Everything that she told me that she wanted in her vehicle she wanted, pointed to an Avalanche. She ended up dropping out and refused to help out with the payments, so I kept it hoping she would come around. I've redone all the plastic molding with satin black plastic spray paint and satin white plastic spray paint. Upgraded the wheels from 17's to 20's, and stereo system that had blown speakers, and installed a set of tow mirrors with the backup light's and turn signals. I've also added a bully bar with LEDS and a roof rack for her kayak.
