No problem 2002 39,400 miles

Fuel pump died at 67000 miles.

2004 Z71 Avalanche.

I've had ~5 injectors replaced when the vehicle was newer as well.

I've been Chevrolet through and through but if someone at Chevrolet isn't smart enough to spec a fuel pump and filter that will last longer than this I think I'm going to switch to a Tundra. :E:

Hey, I just wanted to say I knew it was the fuel pump before I even brought it in based on all the excellent posts here on this forum.

2003 61,600 miles, no problems, but when I bought my 1996 GMC brand new, the fuel pump went out at 7,000 miles.  Ticked me off because I bought the truck to replace my POS '88 GMC that gave me problems.  The letters "GMC", stood up to what they mean:
Gotta
Mechanic
Coming

03 Z71 53,000 miles. No problems, shut it off to get gas, wouldn't start when I tried to leave.

Av'n It,
Todd

No fuel pump problems with my 02 Z-66 after 52,000 miles.    I do change the Napa Gold filter every year and primarily run with over a half a tank of Shell gas.    With the engine running with rear wheels off the ground I have listened to the pump and it sounds good.  Nice constant buzz.  At 100,000 I am going to replace it along with the water pump, I would rather replace it before I have too.

My fuel pump on my 03 1500 started whining at 46,783 mi.
it went on for a few days or so & just stopped on it's own.

I am at 60,000 +? now & so far , knock on wood, no more problems.

Mine was done under warranty, and I'm pretty sure it was almost $900 Canadian, labour included!

My 2002 needed one at 55,000. It would lose pressure when parked and not start unless the key was turned off and on a few times to prime it up. The check valve died. Once it started it ran resonably ok. I changed it and it solved the problem.

had to replace in my 02 under warrany.  Was making noise and had it replaced before failure.

Replaced fuel pump at 95,000 miles. Also, had induction system cleaning (fuel injectors). Very expensive, but the? '03 Z-71 runs like new again. Before the fuel pump completely failed I had some warning signs. The first early warning was the pump running too long with the ignition key on (engine off). The second warning was when I stalled out a few times. The pump finally failed completely while on the freeway and I had to be towed. I'm just glad I wasn't on vacation and in a desolate place!

Interesting that you had the symptom of the pump running too long.  I have a friend with a Silverado (forgot what year) and his pump seems to run for ever after the truck is shut off.  I thought/wondered if it was a relay problem.

My old fuel pump not only ran too much, it was also noisy till the system pressured up. The new pump I had put in is hard to hear because it's so quiet. It also only takes about 2 seconds to pressure up and stop.

I guess that I shouldn't complain.
I have 128,000 miles on my 2002 2500. I've been wondering the cause of the truck shutting off on the highway and having a hard time starting with less than a 1/2 tank.
I took the truck to the dealer and searched for codes. They found codes for BOTH the crank position sensor AND fuel pump!

47,500 miles on my 02-2500. No problems yet. I try to never let fuel level get below 1/4 tank. Change the filter about once a year. Going to have to clean the injectors one of these days.
