gas mileage

....on the highway with the cruise on @ 70 mph... I hope to get 18 - 19? with the Avy.? Will check it out on 1000 mile trip over the Labor Day weekend.
That should be doable. And welcome to the club.  ;)

I just bought an 05 1500 2wd with the 3.42 gears on Saturday.  Ive been taking it easy but according to the meter Im avg 18.1 on the first 300 miles.  Thats probably 70% highway running around 70.  I'll be taking this on a trip in a few months and I'm very pleased with the mileage so far.  I traded in a Jeep Cherokee and I don't think it got much better.

2wds do get 3-5 more mpg than a 4wd Av.  I don't see why there is so much of a difference, but after compiling the numbers it does look that way...

I am averaging about 12.5 mpg on my 02 Z66.  That is a mix of hwy/city, and towing all through together.  I would like to see it get a little better, but that is about as good as it gets right now!

I work for a road and bridge construction co.  Most everyone has either a crew cab or SUV.  Im a construction manager so I have the option of buying what I want and the company pays a set amount every month.  They pay for gas, oil, tires and any maintenance.  It's a real nice perk.  The Avalanche may end up costing me some because they don't pay enough to cover a $30,000 truck.  But I made out good on the Cherokee and It just depends on how much the Avalanch will be worth 3 or 4 years from now with over 100K on her.

If I keep it 4 yrs I'll need to get about $5000 to break even.  That is assuming no other cost on my part.  They wont pay for major repairs.  I havn't figured out what I would need in 3.  Some think they do better trading every 2 years.  I'll set down and figure it out later.

The only downside is your limited on color choises.  In the past the trucks had to be white.  Now the policy has eased some.  They wont go for blues, orange, red, or any bright color's.  I went with silver.

One of the guys that work for me bought a Suburban.  He modded it some, different exhaust and cold air filter.  I think he's getting around 15mpg.  He also lifted the truck and put on taller tires/wheels.

I just got back from a 4200mile trip - across the Rockies and through the Midwest.  I was pulling a 4000lb Airstream, and held the speed pretty close to 65.  My mileage for the whole trip came in at 11.5 and the cost of fuel came to $0.25 per mile -- ouch!
