This is interesting.
My '04 2500 just started doing this.
Man I sure am glad my truck wasn't the only one trying to roast the owner for FATHER'S DAY    :B:

add my 05 EXT to the list...I left my flashers on while parked illegally and loading up some junk...it made the battery go dead...I jumped it and when I got in one side was blowing hot.  I disconnected the battery twice with no change.  Is there a climate control reset?  I know on fords if you push a combination of buttons it resets?
The only good thing that came of this is that my check engine light went out with the battery disconnect...I am getting tired of this thing breaking...it recently has beenleaving a trail of rear end fluid on my driveway.  Luckily I only have 8 months left on the lease...the real question is do I get another 12 mpg pig that breaks a lot or do I try something diferent?   :E:

I have an '03 1500 w/ cladding.  My battery died and after I jumped it, the passenger side AC would only blow out superheated air.  This happened pretty much instantly after the starting the car (how come the heater never works that fast?  Whole other topic).  It definitely seems to be related to the battery dying.  This by the way has been my only problem with the AV (knock on wood).

It is related to the battery dying. The AC have a computer and it needs to be reset, do that by turning off the ac, turnoff all the electric systems, then disconnect the battery for 5 minutes reconnect the battery turn it on DO NOT touch the ac for 3 minutes while the computer recalibrates then it should work fine

P. S.  Great White ---  Mine started out very infrequently about six months ago.   maybe once a month.   Now it is usually every day!  Good thing its cold outside!  I think the battery disconnect will work longer then simply turning the ignition off but not sure about that yet.   It is to the point though where turning off ignition works only 20% of the time when it used to work all the time early on. ....
Add me to the list.... This has become a much more frequent occurence over the last few months... about a year ago it happened and I thought it was a fluke... now it is almost constant.  I took it to the dealership this morning and the service writer knew exactly what I was talking about, like he has seen it many times before.  I don't want to have to carry a 8mm wrench to "reset" my A/C every so often..

05' 2500,hot on the pass. side, thought i'd share the outcome. fixed under warranty.from the dealership invoice......."diagnosed hvac system blowing hot air on pass. side and blows cold on drivers side. recalibrated hvac system and pass. side temp door worked. inspected for dtc's and found dtc b0229 and b0418. found bulletin pit3504d describing condition. removed and inspected terminals on right side ip junction block c4,c5 and c8. all terminals in good shape. also found bulletin #06-01-38-003 for reprogramming hvac module, concerning unable to control recirc and/or pass. or driver side actuator. performed reprogramming of hvac control module. warr. code 98f83. condition still present. commanded recirc door, door would not move. removed and replaced hvac recirc door actuator, door will now move when commanded with tech II , noted recirc button on hvac control head does not command actuation of recirc door. removed and replaced hvac control head, recirc door now operates as designed. after replacement of control head, pass. temp door operated for a short time, then was not able to control and reset dtc b0268. removed and replaced pass. side temp door actuator."    parts required 89018365 actuator(2 of these) , 15855848 control.      HOPE THIS HELPS.

Finally get a call this evening..... bad actuator on passenger side.... bill 1400 and some change   ......

"by the way would you like our 60K service since your truck is a 58K????  Oh and you are going to need tires soon too...."

Well it is good to see that soo many people besides me that have had this problem as well. It freaked me out the first time it happened.  People aren't kidding when they say that it is seriously hot!  Every time mine freaks out on the two drivers side vents scorching the driver and giving an artic blast to the passenger.  I hope that there is a recall that covers this because I don't feel like spending the cash to fix it.

Add my '05 to the list. Phoenix Arizona, late afternoon, July, carpooling with three other people in the car. Driver's side suddenly starts blowing out pure heat; passengers side is arctic. We had just hit the freeway, rush hour, so stopping wasn't really an option.

45 minutes later, four very hot, sweaty and silent people arrived at their destination. Man, I haven't used 55x4 air conditioning since I was a kid! Sure kills the conversation.

This morning I went out to check and it was back to all systems normal. Well, the A/C was working anyway. Now my T/C and ABS lights are on and buzzing. What the heck???

Humm you will need to have the code scanned most auto parts stores will do it for free.

Take out the back window if it happens again you'll get a nice breeze.

So go by an auto parts store, tell them I've got lights on and ask them to scan it? Didn't realize they could do that! I'll add that to my TTD list.

Great idea, didn't even think of that! Wouldn't have worked on the freeway with passengers in the back seat but will remember it should it occur again.

Thanks much!

Peter

you can add me to the list as well, it happen to me on my 04, going down the road A/C blowing out cold air then all of a sudden hell hits you in the face, and it was happen a couple if times, what ive dont to quick fix the problem if im driving in a straight line i put the truck in neutral and turn off the truck, then restart the truck put it back in drive and keep rolling and it fixes the problem for me

Add me to the list  '04 1500

I just got my truck back from the body shop.. Freak Hail storm here in NJ $2k in damage..

Now starting the truck up I noticed it is pulling and cranking very hard, seems to low battery. I think the body shop let the battery run down. Now voila heat from hell on the passenger side.

I think there is defintly a recall issue out there. any lawyers check this board for class action suits?

Going out now to disconnect battery..  pray that works..

Ok so just finished the battery disconnect... That was a pain with the side mount and the fuse box almost on top of it..

When I turned the truck on the ac was on by default.. I turned it off for 3 min.. Turned it on.. Hot air from all vents now.. I put it in neutral as suggested above turned truck off then on.. back to cold driver, hot passenger seat..

Any help suggested.. I can not shell out that much money for an accuator?

Thanks in advance

as long as it's cold on the drivers side, you're ahead! just close the vents on the passenger side.the cost of the actuator is moot,it's the labor to replace it,the whole dash has to come out! it took the dealership 9+ hours to do mine, and THEY know what they're doing!

They found the actuator door at rockauto (see post #18 above), but like Jimbo said it is disassmebing the dash that basically screws you.... I guess that many hours of labor really add up.  I thoght I found a TSB article in the techlink section about an alternative way to do it, but now I cannot seem to find it.

2005 2500, electronic automatic dual zone with vacuflorescent display,

A/C blows hot on passenger side... just started happening.

Battery was disconnected for a while.

Curious about that TechLink article.

This is total BS.. If this many of us are having the exact same problem and it is so costly to remidy I think Chevy needs to step up to the plate here and fix this issue. I am sure there are tons of people out there that do not check this board that have had the same problem.

Anyone have any idea how to get the attntion of GM on this issue?

David

okay... some good  :D  and some bad   :E: news... I finally found where it talks about being able to pull the dash out "whole", but it looks like it is for the 07-08 full size truck and suv's..

I wish I could help you folks but the tech center is locked :E: :E: :E: :E:

Oh geez...that looks like a radical approach to replacing some otherwise simple parts.  But, if you know how they assemble them, it makes sense.  Believe it or not, a dash is completely assembled from the rear in the assembly plant then installed in the vehicle.  Just another example of "simplicity for assembly purposes but not for repair".  And, sure is a hell of a lot of work and cost to the owner to access/replace a heater core or a/c control module.  Not looking forward to that.

:D

I fixed mine...

...by using the "turn off A/C module, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, reconnect battery, start car, and don't touch A/C for 5 minutes" technique recommended by MichiganSilver03.   Thanks MichiganSilver03!  Your contributions make this site a worthwhile place to visit!

To this techinque I added cycling the vent control button through all of it's positions (after first touching nothing for 5 minutes)... floor, dash, defrost, floor-dash, floor-defrost, etc... so that the actuator and blend doors could get some excercise, and have an opportunity to have their relative position "read" by the HVAC computer module.  I repeated this entire modal cycle a few times, with full fan dialed at max cold, waiting a while in each mode for it to "register."  Now there's a subtle pun.

All in all it took about 30-40 minutes of button pushing (and $30 bucks in gas idling (joking)).  Instead of disconnecting the battery for just 5 minutes, I actually let it sit for a couple of hours.

So far (just 1 day) so good... time will tell if this fix will last, and/or how often this relearning will have to occur.
