newbie question - mid gate?

Sorry if this has been discussed many times over...

but I have been exploring the Avalanche as I am intrigued by the unique ability to convert between SUV and quasi-pickup...

I've watched the videos on the Chevy and Cadillac sites, but I am still confused on the midgate.

I see the interior back wall flips down, but is there also a hinged gate that opens into the bed?  How is secured?  What about the rear window?

Thanks in advance!

The best way to understand is to go visit one and play.

The midgate has a crossbar.  Depending on the configuration, this crossbar either remains in place to hold the window, or remains attached to the midgate when the window is out by itself or when the entire midgate is down and window out.

The wall you are refering to is the actually piece that seperates the bed and interior cab. It is not like a truck where you have a cab and a bed and the two sit back to back. The whole truck is one piece not 2 like a regular pick up.

S when you flip the rear seats up and pull the midgate down you are looking into the bed. If you leave the window in place then you can just flip down the mid gate. If you take the window out, very easy, and place it in the holding location on the midgate, then let the midgate down then the whole area is open.

Hope this explains it. Now go play with your own.. >:D at a dealer

I went to a dealer last week and eyeballed the three they had on the lot.  NO one came out to say hello or open them up.... of course it was 103 degrees or something like that.

Thanks guys.

One more question....  this 'holding location' for the window... is the window under the floor at that point?

The window can be safely stowed in the midgate, it's got a space for it with locks in place.

thanks.  also, i am not sure if the three I saw were '06 or '07 either...

Thanks, and apologies for posting in the wrong forum...

In those interior shots, I was being confused by seeing the inside wall of the bed...  I thought that was the gate, swung open and locked in place...

doh!

Thanks again.

sweet deals on 06's if you can find one, or wait about a month or so and the deals will be getting better on the 07's I'm sure!

Thanks.  I'm not in a hurry.  Will likely wait for an '07.

In the pics of the orange, what is the first pic where it looks like rails on the bed?  And does the 3 piece bed cover store on board as well as the window and gate?

side bin covers lifted up?

3 piece cover is secured to inside side wll of bed using straps on 2006 and later..

earlier models had a bag you put them and coudl secure to hooks on bed side...
