I've owned the AV for over 3 years now, and have zero desire to get something different. I rarely keep vehicles for more than 2 years, and I need to give it some kind of makeover to keep intrest in it. I haven't done many mods to it due to it being fully equipped when I bought it. I put Escalade 17" chrome wheels and smooth caps on it a couple years ago along with a Stull grille insert, and I'm going a different direction now.

I used Rust-oleum "Hammered finish" Black I've since clear coated them and they look better than the picture.

Thanks Alaska_AV for the idea.

Mark

That "Hammered Finish" is pretty cool paint isn't it? Looks good!

I like that .....

that is something I would do..... in lieu of buying new wheels...

thanks for pics...
PS....Need pics on the AVY though....

Those look great onyx_z71 ! (y)

I've been wondering what the stock rims might look like if I tried something like this :

Big? if someone had photoshop and could get an idea what they would look like with the stock rims:

Thanks for the compliments.

As far as sanding, I just lightly sanded before I painted with 120 grit. The wheels were in decent shape before I painted them, so it went pretty easily. They only were on for about a year and 15,000 miles. I did 2 coats, and let them sit a day, then put the silver stripe on and cleared them twice. The one in the picture was the 1st prototype, and that's why I show the unmolested one in the 2nd pic. After I decided to go with it, I did the other 3 this past weekend.

When I cleared the 1st one, the paint sort of lifted as it was not completely dried. At first, I started looking for a puke bucket, but then, as the texture somewhat changed and sort of laid down, it looked better than before I started clear coating.

After a few hours of the clear drying, I wanted to make sure this stuck, so of all things, I removed one of the racks in my kitchen oven, turned it to the lowest setting (170 degrees) and cooked them one at a time for 2 hours. After taking them out and sitting overnight, that finish is hard as a rock and looks great.

Pics of them on the truck to come when I get the tires in a week or two.

He was single, no doubt.

Very nice.  :D  I'm going to paint my rims after I get my 20's.

Very cool, looks like an excellent choice.  Looking forward to seeing pictures once they are mounted.

Looks awesome. I used that same paint for my clevis hook in the trailer hitch & bowtie.

You must be single. Here's how that would work at my house:

"Honey, what are you doing with the oven?"

Reply - "Nothing, just heating up my wheels"
