Just got my snugtop installed last week, added a bedrug and the boat door mod, it's a little dirty right now, it's been raining the last week and havn't had time to clean it up.

Looks good.  Haven't decided on it yet but the more AV's i see with it on the better.  Que.  how good is the seal around the top and sides and do you get any wind noise from it.

You know, I'm not really a fan of the Snugtops on AVs (why not just buy a Suburban?), but this REALLY looks nice.  Kudos!  And the bed carpet kit and the boat doors really make it functional.  Nice job.

The wind noise is minimal, I've taken my rear glass out due to visibility, if you turn the radio up a little bit you can't even hear it. It seals up pretty good too, took it to the carwash and tried to see if I could get water in where it seals to the body, the only place that water came in is thru the sail panel windows.

I felt the same way as you did until I was able to see it in person. I'm a big waterfowl hunter and I needed the extra space, it was either buy a bigger trailer or the snugtop. I haul way too much stuff that could not be put in a suburban which is why I choose the avalanche. Thanks for the comments.

Forgive my ignorance - do you lose the functionality of the storage compartments?  ???

Yes, you loose the use of the lids, however the boat door mod he talks about is visible in the first picture.
He cut a hole in the side of the bed for access, and installed marine hatches to access them from inside the bed.

I was watching a movie the other day in the movie there was a car chase it looked like three  Suburbans but when one crashed it was a Avalanche with a Snug top.

Hi-
Very nice job with the top and boat door mods!  I'm thinking about ordering a SnugTop for my 2006 Avalanche from Mid-America as a Christmas present to myself and driving out to St. Louis to pick it up over the holiday break.  I've got one question, though, that I want to be sure of...

From doing some experimenting (and reading other posts), it appears that if I completely remove the midgate and glass, the back seats will still be sturdily supported in the upright position (they don't rely on the midgate for support), yes?  I'll put some carbon monoxide sensors in the back for safety, but otherwise, leaving the midgate/glass out most of the time won't cause a problem with the rear seats, correct?

I also wanted to ask if you could post more details and pics on the boat door mods.  It looks very nicely done, and I like the idea of not completely losing the use of those storage spaces if I get a top.

     Thanks very much!

I would not recommend taking the midgate out, I had my window out for a while and ended up putting it back in, it makes alot of noise going down the highway.

OK, thanks for the info.  Because of this, I probably won't leave the midgate out permanently, but there may some times I'll want to.  I'm still wondering if the seats will stay upright if I do...

I just noticed, too, that it looks like the three original plank-style bed covers might still be able to be used with a SnugTop installed.  I hadn't realized that - it's kind of cool.

Seats are not supported by midgate, but midgate would help in an accident to hold back anything in the bed.
I can't see any reason to remove midgate, unless you want to only lay one seat down for rear access.
Seats are set up the same way as a suburban, no midgate in that!
