Just thought I'd send along a few links re: Digital Radio for anyone looking into XM. I was, but I think I'll put it off for a while, if not forget it altogether.

I don't think XM radio will be going off the air.

They may go chapter 11, or be forced to close and sell the assets to someone (like GM).

Some popints with digital radio from local broadcasters...

Same start up costs for consumer....RADIOS will be about same price as XM radios if not more....

No national coverage staions will drop out since their range is limited.

Commercials commercials....THey will not have any better programming just the same stuff with a better signal to your car.

IMO

Good point, that I think everyone is missing. The quality is great...but having the same 150 stations anywhere in the US, without having to

press scan...listen...find a good format....lose signal...repeat

I just got XM about a week ago, and I must say that I love it. I haven't listened to FM since getting the new system. I think that if someone has a good product, it'll last and I believe XM will. Besides, if they can continue to have manufacturer's back them like GM basically has, they should be doing ok. Technology will always progress, they just need to continue to get better to maintain a superior product.

ditto cannon,

got mine last week and haven't turned to another band yet! eveyrthing is there. i like a diverse mix of musical types and they certainly provide you with that in addition to all the talk and news. reception has been flawless, has not cut out yet. i highly recommend it!

"The only advantage of satellite radio was that they could say they were digital, and now that argument goes by the wayside," said Dennis Wharton, the National Association of Broadcasters senior vice president of communications. "And we are free and local. If you can get what you want and it's free, there really is no argument for satellite radio."
If I win the CAFCNA XM Radio, I get a year for free ;D

I have had my XM for about 3 months now. I only listen to FM local stations in my truck when the football games are on. XM is always on in my truck. My wife has already asked me when I was going to put one in her car. I have bought her one but am going to save it for Christmas.

There's also another way to think about this which is: enjoy this while we can. I've been considering satellite radio and think I might make the plunge soon and enjoy it for as long as it lasts - be that three months or thirty years.

I have had XM for six month now and have not listened to AM or FM since. I wish there was a portable type unit so I could use it at work. I ordered XM on our 2003 Suburban that we got last month but my wife is happy with CD'S for now.

I heard a commercial on XM that said a portable version is available. Why dont you call them and ask.

Just got a new email from XM this afternoon talking about channel lineup. I think I am going to like the boneyard even more with all the 80`s rock on it. After all I am a product of all that R`N`R.

XM Satellite Radio is pleased to announce that CNN will join the XM News neighborhood on Monday, December 2nd, on channel 122, featuring Larry King Live, Lou Dobbs Moneyline, Crossfire, Connie Chung Tonight, Wolf Blitzer Reports and other well-known programs from AOL Time Warner's flagship cable news channel.

Beginning today, FOX News has moved from channel 122 to the first position of our News category on channel 121. We will no longer carry the USA TODAY channel previously located at that channel number.

We have also added two new music channels:

Squizz on channel 48, an edgy, hard alternative rock channel features bands such as Korn, Staind, Tool, Limp Bizkit, Creed, P.O.D., and Papa Roach. With this addition, the Bone Yard (ch. 41) will focus primarily on 80s rock - hair bands, stadium fillers, and power metal.

XM Live, on channel 168, features rare live performances and intimate interviews with your favorite artists 'round-the-clock as well as exclusive live performances recorded at the state-of-the-art XM LIVE Performance studio.

Channel 62 has become Suite 62, previously BET Uptown, and continues to bring you a sophisticated urban, contemporary mix.

To make room for these changes, we are no longer carrying BabbleOn (ch. 167) and will discontinue CNNfn (ch.12:cool: effective December 2.

Playboy fans will be pleased to learn that in early December a number of new shows will be added to Playboy Radio (ch. 205). If you are not yet a Playboy premium subscriber, you can order this adult service for only $2.99 per month at http://playboyradio.xmradio.com
