So I'm currently considering getting a 2500 Avy and doing either a Duramax swap, or putting the A1000 behind the 8.1L.  Just researching at this stage in the game, but I hear the A1000 came behind some 8.1Ls, just not our Avys, as they need a body lift to clear.

If my memory serves, the 2500 has a factory 3" body lift, but if not that is what you would need unless you cut the trans tunnel to accommodate the added size of the Allison.  Other than that, the bolt pattern is the same and the wiring harness should be the same as well...plug-and-play.  You will need a tune to handle the shift points, pressures and that sort of thing.  Good luck with the swap. You will increase your towing capability with the Allison.  Make sure you get a good quality, high capacity trans cooler to help with the towing.

ms38w is right, 2500 HD do come with a body lift to clear the allison. Yes the Silvy came with the 8.1 and the allison. The frame is wider on the Silverado but I think it should fit in the 2500 av frame

Yes, I intend to do the 3" Body Lift to accomodate the A1000 - as my next step on the path would be an LB7 to go in front of that A1000.

My dream rig is a Dmax 3/4 ton Avy.

Yes!  Insanely jealous, heh.

My motorcycle is back in commission again, so the low gas mileage won't bother me with the 8.1L.  Doesn't mean I don't want that LB7 in there, so I can run bio in her.  I'd love to be able to daily drive a DMax on bio-diesel!

... and I just found out that DODGE is bringing a damn Diesel 3.0L V6 to market in their 1/2 ton line.

Man, that's going to be nice - Ram 1500 with the side lock boxes in a crew cab would be a nice light duty truck.
