David had plans on taking a trip around the lake and check out some of the best things the lake has to offer.. the idea is to start down by david and over days pick up local members on the way... once you get up to the upper UP there are ALOT of great sites to check out... i will get some more information if needed...

i thought we could take a day out and check out Mackinaw Island!

Here is some information on it if you have never been there... we have been there so many times in my life its weird but it gets better everytime.. (its the fudge :D)

Thanks Jeremy.

I was working on a preliminary schedule, that's why I did not post anything yet.?

I am glad you posted because sometimes I get too involved in the details that I forget to post the original idea for everyone to see and start thinking about it. :E: :E:

So we can keep this thread going for general ideas and sugestions, and as soon as I get something planned (as far a rout and activities) I will make a new thread for the cruise.

I think we should take 4 to 5 days to make this cruise. that way we can spend some time visiting places rather than just driving through places.

In the mean time post your ideas, sugestions, places you think we should visit, etc, etc, etc.

I hope we can make this work this year.

Also if you think you make it (sometime in August) let us know. There is a group of us who are thinking of doing this regardless, but would love to have as many members a possible.

Even if you can join us for one of the days of our trip, or part of one of the cruises, it would still be great.

I will post details as soon as I get some more info.

Later,

David

We did that back a few years ago. We took the closest state road to the lake and took 5 days driving around the lake. Well, all of it was not driving we spent on day at the Dells and a day on the Island. It was fun, not sure we will join you but I have this thread bookmarked "just in case"!

Ludington, MI/Manitowoc,WI SS Badger schedule link

It's a 4 hour trip across the middle of Lake Michigan, I'd like to just drive the upper lake. The ferry is twice a day, (a cruise within a cruise). The ferry isn't cheap but would be a good way for some to circle a portion of the lake.

Mackinac Bridge & Mackinac Island

(maybe) for me too, haven't asked the wife yet and there is no schedule

Add me to the "maybe" list, please.
I have been wanting to cruise up to the upper peninsula.

Jeremy,

I think we may want to do this sometime in August. I will try and set a date by the end of the month. It would have to be before school starts again. There is always Christmas or Spring break also (which can include some off-roading) but that makes it difficult for all the interested parties to attend.

There are a variety of events going on during the summer, and during august around our route. It would be nice to hit a few events as we cruise around the lake.

I will also try and finalize the proposed route. For this I still need some more help on possible areas to stop and visit, and spend the nights.

One more thing Jeremy, could you keep the updated attendance list on the first post, that way it would easier for averyone to keep track.

Thank you for your help.

Later,

David

I stayed in Sault Ste Marie when I visited Mackinac Island. It's likely cheaper with more vacancies and you can visit the Soo Locks. (there's an Indian casino there too)  I'll assist with lodging & camping info when you have a schedule.

If it's north thru Wisconsin I'd love to catch the ferry and circle thru the U.P., there are also fall colour tours late Sept/early Oct in the U.P., if it's a circle south thru MI maybe members short on time could make it to Mackinac Island for a day or meet south of the bridge at Fort Michilimackinac for a GTG & cruise.

Just thoughts on how we might get more members involved,
anyone jumping into a portion of the cruise better be early.

Truck plant group tours are available with advance notice. Mon-Fri 9AM & Noon last I checked. We are closed last 2 weeks of May, first 2 weeks of July for GMT900 prep. I might be able to arrange smaller tours.

You can put us on the maybe list pending dates.  We've actually been working on a multi-year round the great lakes cruise that started on the south shore of Erie and has progressed around Lake Ontario the north shore of Erie and up the east side of Lake Huron as far as the Bruce Penninsula (Ontario).  Last summer we were goint to pick up there and continue around Huron.  This Lake Michigan trip sounds like fun.
