My local Chevy dealer does not know how to use the Tech 2 to change the VIN Theftlock to a 2004 AVY with the 15229287 HU. Do we have a document that will walk him through the unlock procedure?

Does any one have a link to the procedure the chevy tech needs for the Theftlock VIN change?

I have the 2004 Z71 Blown 5.3L with non Y91 Premium Bose. Taking out 6 disk changer/radio with XM and Onstar.

Thanks

hey I am a service advisor and if no one there knows how to do it, find another dealer and never go back there.  they are not knowledgable to be working on you car at ALL.  all they have to do is relearn the vin in the radio.  if they have a tech 2 period they WILL know how to cause we have to do it to every radio that is sent off, bcm, pcm, door module, and so on and so on.  pm sperry I am sure he knows where the procedure is.  I am not at work right now.

Thanks to Sperry for the link. Thanks to BigBlackAV for the email. I am ready to eat a bullet right now.? :beating: I took the Av to the dealer here at 9:00 am. I waited on the vehicle. They made the to recall changes (seat belt and tailgate) and sent the truck back to me at 11:00 saying they didn't have a program for my model year. (This was after I called and they said NO PROBLEM, BRING IT IN). I then pulled the service manager aside and talked to him. I explained the situation to him and told him I would bring the truck back after lunch with the GM service document explaining the VIN relearn procedure.

At 11:55, I turned my truck back over to them after letting the tech and service manager read the GM Service doc# 1275527. They both agreed that it seemed straight forward and there should be no issues. I left my truck telling them I would be back at 5:00 to pick it up.
At three o'clock I called with info from BigBlackAv and let them know the dealers name where he got his unit unlocked. At four o'clock I called them and was informed the tech had the truck in the bin and had no issues at this point.

At 5:00 I walked in, and was informed the tech needed more time and they needed to keep my truck over the weekend and I could pick it up monday. The service manager told me that the tech wanted to call GM and get further info on the procedure. I calmly informed the service manager that I would not be able to sleep at night without the AV in my driveway so I would be taking it home with me. :needhug:

So now I sit with a blank screen, ( I haven't been able to do a fuse trick successfully, even though the HU lighting comes up). I dont want to take my truck back to the Chevy dealer. I am going to talk to the Pontiac dealer on Monday to see if they have anyone that knows how to use a Tech 2.

Any suggestions. BTW link me to the Fuse trick on the Theflock bypass (temporary)

:help:

In Accy, turn on the radio.
Open the hood and the UBEC cover.
Remove the radio fuse in the lower right of the fuse group.
Replace it after about 5~10 seconds.
See if the radio powered up.

If so, then try the same with the engine running.

The fuse trick doesn't work in the ignition mode for some radios. Accy only has in most all HU's that I had played with. I had heard of instances with a Lux nav working in ign mode that way.

This just bypasses the power up polling and self-tests, where the theftlock is activated due to a VIN mismatch.

So, at least you should have something while you sit somewhere.. Maybe learn the operation a bit and set your presets, etc.

My question is....

Shoudln't I see the Theftlock Activated message on screen. All I see is blank screen even after pulling fuse and powering on the unit. All I see is lighting come on around the knobs/pushbuttons. Nothing on the screen.

That doesn't sound right.. I hope they didn't try to do an online upgrade of your HU with the TIS data for the OEM one!

If it says "Theftlocked" when you first power up, then do that blank screen thing, I wouldn't worry about it.

They can always change things simply with software. Theftlock bypassing can be one of those..

I would try that other dealer.

Now I am getting nervous. I have not seen Theftlocked since I installed on thursday. That was before I went to the dealer. I have never seen anything power except lighting. I went out and tried to load a CD in the slot and it will not  even accept cd. Shouldn't the CD/DVD tray accept media?

I don't believe it will in that mode.

I wouldn't sweat bullets yet. Expected operation can change with model runs, year to year. This could be one of the operational changes..

If it did it once and not after, and that was before the trip to the dealer, I wouldn't suspect they did something stupid either.

Because mine said "theftlock" each time I started it (INR) doesn't really confirm that yours (TNR) will..

Worse case is a trip to the service depot. They can reload the correct firmware version/update and clear the memory for you. When you re-install it that way, no theftlock clear procedure is needed. It will learn your VIN without the dealer doing it, as a new one would.

OL let me clarify what i said -"I have not seen Theftlocked since I installed on thursday". I have never seen the theftlocked message, even on thursday, or since I installed on Thursday. It sits there like my ex-wife, with a perpetual blank look on it's face. >:D

Service Depot? Location? links? Info?

Hmmmm, OK, I thought you saw it initially, for some reason.

Is this a new unit or an EBay used on, or??? I lost track.

Do you know the seller?

Unfortunately it was Ebay auction #8008313728. Seller advertised "Tested in working Condition". It is a used unit with a 03/02/05 manufactured date. The seller is selling other manufacturers Nav Units and I thought I might be safe getting this one. I guess I probably need to contact seller and ask how they tested unit and what it displayed under test.

Anyway you mentioned Service Depots can reflash program. Do you have any further info on this procedure?

Most of them are dealer contract only. I don't know who to have you contact first, as I don't know where you live!
(Area, not an exact addr.)

I really appreciate you taking time out on this. I am in Panama City, Florida. I am not sure I am to a point of even utilizing a Service Depot, but if the seller balks on a return, and unit has memory/program issues, this info might help me at some point bargain a solution with seller or may just give me another option to look at if the dealers can't get it unlocked.

Thanks

OK.. The closest service depot I can think of is Model Electronics. Perhaps they can give you some insight as to what they'll do. IF the theftlock procedure wont work.

You might contact a guy in Michigan who goes by machomachodan on ebay and on the dieselplace forum.  Can't remember if he comes over here or not.  He sells nav units on ebay and has the delphi software to reprogram them.  He reprogrammed mine from lux to non-lux a few days ago and also cleared the VIN for me.  His email is machomachodan@yahoo.com.  Tell him I told you to contact him and see if he can help.  He charged me $50 for the reprogram and VIN clear, plus shipping.  I figure that was just about as cheap as having the stealer clear the VIN.

That was sure handy..

I'll bet he worked for a certain warranty station up there.

And thanks for confirming the lux to non lux programmability. I was getting nothing but mixed facts, opinions and opposition to that a while back.

`Seems there's not too many around that know what dsp's and related support hardware can do!

:jacked: Yep, they are definitely reprogrammable.  I had originally planned on the lux amp swap, but they started getting harder to find and much more expensive the past few weeks.  The reprogram let me keep my hu and use my existing amp, plus skip the trip to the dealer and the hassle of convincing them to do something they're not used to.

Edit: Space after the "jacked" so it would show..

Dealers are not to eager to jump into those things.

Even the warranty stations wouldn't clear the air about it. Non-commital I guess. They said they would be to reprogram the interface type but wouldn't elaborate if they would do a changover from the another type or not?

They said that they would configure themselves upon the initial install. We found that all that would do is config to the VIN and input accessories.

So I dropped that and just kept to the interfaces as the model # it supposed to be.

I e-mailed the guy at the above address, to intro myself. I would expect he's a bit busy though..

Dan has been a wealth of information over at dieselplace.  Don't know what his current workload is, but two weeks ago he got my hu on a Wednesday and had it shipped out Thursday morning.  He was great about responding to my emails and staying in touch during the process.  I offered to pay him thru paypal or send a certified check, he said just send a personal check.  Don't quote me on this, but he may even be able to make them compatible for non-bose systems.  I think he was talking about this in a post a few days ago and was going to look into the software requirements.  IMHO, it's nice to know you have the option of reprogramming these units.

The premium head units will work in a non-bose. I don't know of any retrofits but they will from new.

The premium amp is dumb. All it does is amplify and a bit of crossover/woofer out plus add distortion.

Many props to 4Fielders. I got a prompt email back from Dan. He said to send the unit to him and he would reprogram the HU to remove the theftlock and check out the unit. He also says he has picked up some Nav units from this paticular seller before and has had no problems. So maybe we struck oil here. He also says that he will charge me 50.00 to clear theflock and check unit out. If unit is bad then he will send it back with no charges due. Thanks to 4Fielder and Sperry for all your help to this point....

And Dan is now on board here.

So hopefully that may help matters a bit.

Thanx too, 4Fielders...

You're welcome guys, glad to be of service.  Consider it partial payment for the wealth of information this board has provided me the past few months.
