XM Radio Service Special - One Year For $77!!!
«
on:

Call Up XM Radio at 800-967-2346, select changes to your account on the voicemail from Hell system, hold for a few minutes and then tell them, "I'm calling for the 1 year of service for $77 promotion," they will connect you to rentention. Your credit card is billed for the year in one shot for $77. Found out about this on the Grand Prix site, called, did it, and thought I'd share here.

It is a GREAT deal - so happy I did it. Found out that the prior XM drone didn't do my transfer/free three months service on my Grand Prix and got that fixed at the same time.

For those of you that haven't called, make sure you're service is coming up for renewal or have just renewed from GM automobile. For those of us that have had XM for a while and have not renewed we're basically SOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I called I asked for the $77 GM retention special and got it with no problems.
My free 3 months ran out around May 1st.
It's not worth it to me to pay full price. The $77 special makes it pallatable.

Well, I just got off the phone with the retention department and they said my subscription
MUST
be expired before I could get this rate.
Not really a problem as my sub runs out on Sept 18th.
The guy said after that date I would be unindated with offers to renew.
We'll see.

Guess folks are having different experiences - although I was going quarter to quarter, never paid in advance so that may be the difference (and had just come off of my three month free trial on the GP)

Per the email I recieved
We have investigated your request and our records indicate that the promotion in
question is geared toward specific customers who met certain criterions and had
purchased new GM or Honda vehicles. We do apologize for any inconvenience that
this may have caused.
This came straight from xm so not everyone is meeting the stringent criteria apparently. I must have bought the WRONG GM vehicle

Okay folks....Here it goes....
My free 3 months expires 9/29/05. I just called the number at the beginning of the tread. they asked me to verify names on acct, address, and DOB. I asked for the 1yr/$77.00 special. They said no problem but I had to call back to a different dept at 1-800-998-7900 and they would assist me.
I called and again I had to verify address and I asked for the 1yr/$77.00. She said "no problem bear with me". After a few hums and waits she told me I was all set and that my subsription will go in effect as of Oct 1st. I questioned how my current service expires on 9/29 and she said there will be no interuption with service and that she set it to roll-over to the new subsrciption.
Now my real worry
No money was asked for. She told me I will get a bill in the mail for the subsription.
I offered a credit card for the accnt, she said no I can pay by mail or credit card when I get the bill.
I like this but question it too...Are they that despriate to keep listeners by going the old fashioned way off billing and waiting for payment? Hope so...I may call back tomorrow to verfy my order. It just sounds to goo to be true...
Any .02 on this??
Thanks,
AHOY

Thanks for the heads up! I liked the XM in my '05 2500 that I bought 2 Roady 2's for the other cars in the fleet. The 2500 and the wife's XC are in the family plan. I think I will call them tomorrow and see if they will honor this for my Camry radio which is considered my primary radio.
If not, I'll wait until next year when the subscription expires.
Now I need 2 WOW stickers!

UPDATE
Got into the truck...turned on the radio...XM still up and running
So I guess the 'old fashoned way' of receiving a bill and paying by check still exist these days.
I owe a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all of you at CAFCNA for my '$77.00 bucks for one year'.
THANKS,

Well, I replied to this post a while back saying that when I called they would not offer me the one year for $77.00 deal.
When I talked with the guy in the customer retention department, he said that if I wait until my 3 month trial expired that I would be hounded to death with offers to renew at that rate.
Well, I let it expire, waited a week and no one called.
I took the initiative and called again and this time they let me renew for one year at $77.00.
They wouldn't renew it for any longer at that price, so I went ahead an gave my CC info and got the deal.
Why they just didn't let me renew for that price when I called the first time beats the heck out of me.
Anyway, if your sub is about ready to expire, you may want to let it go and call them to renew.
YMMV, but you may get the renewal at a better rate than the current rates.

My 3 month new GM vehicle XM free trial expired last week.
I just got off the phone with the CSR for XM (1-800-998-7900) and I now am set up for the 1 year GM retention special for $77.
Those of you that have just bought a new Avalanche, or any GM vehicle with XM, when your 3 month trial expires, call the above 800 number!

All right! I figured it was worth it for $77. Called and was connected right away. Asked if I received something in the mail and said who knows. Lots of mail just gets thrown away. He then put me on hold to see if I was eligible. Said I was. $77 no tax and should be up and running in a few minutes. THanks for the info. By the way, new AV in June, XM expired in September if that makes a difference.

Actually they still bill that way occasionally. Prior to the price increase last year I re-upped the scbscription for another 4 years and they sent me a bill even though I had my CC on file.

I just got my year renewal for $77. THANKS
They did give me a different number to call; 800-892-5400
I actually called 6 days before my current subscription was up and the way they work I lost those 6 days. BUT, when I asked if they could change the date, they came back and credited me for one whole month ($6.41). So I'm only paying $70.59 for the year. NOW THAT ROCKS !!!

xm built in? Have you looked at Sirius's offerings? All the same price, but if you find programming you like then at least sat radio is somewhat interesting.

just got off the phone with xm @ 1-800-892-5400.
my subscription expired last friday.....
told the rep. I was given this number as part of the customer retention program and was told to ask about the "winback" program....
brief pause, "no problem".
they now take credit cards over the phone.
as much time as I spend in my truck,
$6.42 a month
for satellite radio is a
steal
. (hate commercials, love progressive/alternative/college radio).
plus xmradio over internet and home stereo (directTV) for free.
no brainer.
Thanks Chief for turning us on to this!

Hmm
I will have to try this on both my '05 and my '06. The 3 months free expired on my '06 on October 3rd and I haven't renewed yet since I have been out of town. My '05 is not on a subsription but on a month to month pay. I wonder if I can get the $77 rate each on both of them if I renew the '06 now?? I will have to try this tonite.

I wasn't a renewal, but I called and asked for a low 1-year rate after my 3-month freebie expired. I tried twice. No dice.
They said there was no promotion available for me. Whatever. They can call me when they are ready I guess.

They told me the SAME exact thing. I told them, if I don't get a better deal (considering they are losing NASCAR coverage at the end of this year), I was not going to continue. I got transferred around a bit, but they ended up giving me the $77 rate. I would suggest you call and ask to talk to the retention group.

Told me the SAME thing. I asked to talk to the manger of the customer service person and he insisted the coupon was needed. He suggested that I get transfered to the customer retention group, and they were the ones that can give you that $77 deal without the coupon. Make sure your email address is up to date with XM as this is how they are currently sending out the deals. I believe the code that I have seen on other sites is zwinback. Just search around the interesting looking for XM radio winback and you will get a bunch of hits.....
Or wait until they send you one, I am sure they will. I did get one phone call a couple of weeks ago to offer an extension for 3 months for $4.99 per month. But could not do a longer period than the 3 months. I went about 15 to 20 days without the XM...

good info 2007AVLT3,
Make sure XM has your e-mail and wait until they give you a deal, let it expire if you have to.
The same goes with OnStar, you can get a lower price sometimes. Ask for FREE minutes too

Great news!!
Just got off of the phone with XM Retention Department and got the $77 yearly subscription for both the '05 existing radio and the new '06 radio. The first guy I spoke with insisted that they only gave it to people that were given a Mail Offer. I insisted that he connect me to the Retention Department. Once I got to the Retention Department it was a piece of cake and she was more than willing to get me the promotion.
I LOVE XM!!

I have 2 Avalanches. The '05 was on a month to month with no subscription. The '06 3 month trial period was to expire tomorrow. She gave me the $77 promotion for both of them ($77 each radio)..........I am VERY pleased.

I don't have a roady, but I do get to listen to XM while flying too. A couple of the Airlines I travel on frequently offer XM service.
Several rental car companies are now offering Sirius Satellite service with their rentals too. For me, they both offer about the same since I don't listen to Nascar, Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony. I listen for MUSIC, Top Tracks, 80's as well as News. I WATCH Nascar, not listen. I WATCH baseball, not listen. Howard Stern is not worth listening to.

Worked for me!!! I immediately asked about talking to the customer retension department and then I said "my free 3 month trial just ran out and I wasn't planning on subscribing, but I would do it if I could get the $77 promotional offer." After a five second pause, he said "no problem, I can do that" Gave the credit card number and I'm good to go.

I've been reading this wondering if the $77 was worth it, too. I've had my AV over a month and haven't started the service yet. Heck with almost 80 local radio stations - many of them still speaking English - and six CD's in the changer, I've yet to run out of things to listen to.
Is XM pretty good or not? I'm seeing a bit of both sides here.

have
noticed that my FM does sound better, but theres alot of variety on XM.
$77.00 a year isnt bad, whats $6.00 a month? pocket change. you can hardly buy a big mac meal for that anymore!!
i
USED
to watch howard on E!, and Bubba was on local here, and i dont miss either of them. it's the same stuff everyday on those shows.

I
XM and would gladly pay the $12.95 per month that I was paying for the service previously. Why pay higher when lower is available though? If I had the option for lower electric rates, gas rates, Cable rates, etc.. I would jump all over it too.

Spoke w/ Customer Retention Department on 11/6/2006, got the $77 a year for 1 year. Took three different calls to succeed. Used the "Winback" promotion. My XM plan was expiring in 2 days, after having a 3 year agreement.
Thanks Chief!

Are these "deals" making this happen?
XM also said its average "churn," or subscriber dropout rate, increased to 1.83 percent from 1.40 percent a year ago, and the cost for adding each subscriber rose to $93 from $89 in the same period a year ago.
During the third quarter, XM added a total of 868,000 subscribers, but after accounting for subscribers that dropped out, a figure known as subscriber "churn," the net number of additions was 286,000.

Good info that the $77 retention rate is still in place,
CavalancheNY, I'm often guilty myself, we can discuss why there is a discount elsewhere.

My wife's XM in her Tahoe was going to expire on the first of Dec. Called last night to the wife, who put us on three way and I talked to a Machelle. She said that if I didn't mention the $77.00 promotion that she was not going to mention it and renew at the current rate. So we dumped the family plan and renewed hers for the 77 bucks and upon my return will update the Bikes service also. Don't worry the AVA had a 5 year contract from the start!

today is 1-28-07 and i just got off the phone with xm. they gave me the 1 year. at $77 + tax promotion. and all they asked is why? i said your poop is overpriced and sirius was looking good. they said ok we want to give you the $77 special retention price and i am all set. i paid for it by cc now to seal the deal. so it still works great.

A great deal. I just signed up. thanks,

finally! third call.... instead of going thru their automated system from he!! I just said "cancel my account" and it got my straight thru to a person who I told I wanted to cancel my account if I couldnt get the $77 plan. So he put me on hold and then came back and said he could do it as a one time thing but next year it goes back to the $11.87/month or $142.45/yr... I said ok (I'll worry about that next year
)
yeah!

thanks, i guess i should have read the ENTIRE thread more carefully.
its 550pm and they just told me i failed to qualify again, with the winback code. i told them i had two sirius receivers (truth) and they should cancel my free trial.
she said, "okay, thank you for calling" they have a real attitude at that call center (most likely in india somewhere)
maybe i'll try again tomorrow.
thanks for the welcome - i will keep you posted

Maybe it was my stern voice or the fact that the first person I got on the phone was ............. not from the US. As someone also stated, she was rude and didn't want to budge on the 13 bucks a month, I did tell her the truth that I was told so long as I renewed every year by paying the entire year up front that it would be 9 bucks a month. She said nope, 13 , I then asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for 20 minutes then was hung up on. Ooooooooh, burned me up so called back and asked to cancel. Got a California surfer dude from the accent and he was all for helping me, I even mentioned the 77 a year for grand prix offer (didn't expect it since I was told no to that last year) and was expecting for him to get close to the 9 bucks a month. He didn't flinch and told me he'd offer me the 77 a year as he stated lately there have been lots of similar complaints from the customer service side. Ouch. Anyway, long story short, me happy with $77 paid for the entire year. Now what about next?

If you already have the best in sat. radio (in fact you say you have 2 radio's that get the best in sat. radio) Why bother with 2nd best? Sounds like a whole bunch of attitude and very little in product worth.

Thanks for the info ... just saved me $$$. My 3 month trial ended today. I called XM and told them I wanted to renew. They told me that it was 142 dollars for one year. I told them that I wanted the 77 dollar a year deal that they were offering the Chevy Avalanche Owners Club. They put me on hold and came back and wanted a promotion code. I told them that I didn't have it, but insisted that I wanted the same deal that other "members" were getting. She put me on hold again and came back and told me that they would honor the 77 dollar deal. Yeah baby!!!!

Yep, the WINBACK $77.00 deal is still alive and well.
I just talked with Customer Service, got a real nice lady (lucky me) that renewed my subscription with the $77.00 rate and my current subscription doesn't expire for another couple of weeks.
What a deal!

Thanks, just got off the phone with a great guy at XM Customer Service who said you normally need to have a promo code but he gave it anyways. He told me if anyone else in my family is renewing they need to use the promo code "ZwinbackMYP1" 1 year for $77 is a sweet deal!

Hey, thanks for all the good advice
on renewing at special price. Just called and simply said mine had expired and I wanted to renew using the winback promo.
He asked a few questions (like what did the post card say?) - told him I got the promo code from my car club. First he said something about end of year half-price promos were over, then he looked up my radio and said my vehicle was not eligible for promo. (2008
Avalanche, 3 month trial expired about two weeks ago).
But, he would try to override. He couldn't, so he put me on hold to ask supervisor if they could. In a minute he was back and said it was done - $77 for one year.
Oh, and I had mentioned that I wasn't planning to renew until I found this promo - don't know if that influenced it or not, but it was true.
Wouldn't have known about this deal except through this forum! Great advice here!

So I understand you have to have current subcription almost run out and then you call them for the $77 plan, correct? I just bought a "Roady XT" kit from Future Shop today and I'll be calling XM (Canada I suppose) to activate my account.

Now, you have to let your service expire for about a month. I called on mine too and was told no, so I let it expire. They called me about a week later to get me to sign up, but at the regular price. I told them if I could have the $77 deal I would, they said no. Then a few days ago I got it in the mail. Called them and read them the numbers on the mailing and bang...one year service for $77, and no reconnect fee.

My guess is they are still doing this. I terminated my subscription 3 months after I got my truck(march of 07), yesterday they sent me an e-mail asking me to subscribe again..........$77 for 12 months. I wasn't impressed with it when I had it, won't be spending money on it.

This is a re-post from my favorite deal website (
www.slickdeals.net
)
Taken form retailmenot.com. Use code "ZWINBACK" for $77 for a year and possibly get $12.95 of for putting a CC on file.
Three months free code is "XMSCION03"
Here is the link to the original post
http://www.retailmenot.com/view/xmradio.com
Edit: Make sure you ask for the $12.95 off for CC
I ended up calling, but, got all three

I paid for 3 years
before the price went up, not sure when my time expires or if I'll renew.
I get e-mail from XM, I'll post up if they offer me a good deal to retain me as a customer. I better check my VISA bill or remind my wife to look for XM charges, pretty sure part of the 3 year discount is they automatically put you on month to month when it expires.
They did that to me once before and didn't even give me the GM employee discount I was entitled to at that time, they were quite polite and credited me back. I'm a satisfied XM user, just ain't paying more for it than I have to.
How far you willing to go to keep me ?
is what I plan to ask

Just called in. Never had XM before. I said I got a $77 promotion and would like the deal. She said do you have a promo code, said I was driving down the road. She said ok and there is a 14.95 activation fee. I figured well I better nto push it and said OK. When she was finallizing everything she said, "oh there is no activation fee with this offer." So still give it a try.

My subscription ran out a couple months ago and last month noticed a $186 XM charge on my CC. I called them and told them to cancel my account immediately as they never sent me an invoice for renewal. The lady asked "So you don't want XM anymore?"
I said "not for $186 a year"
She said should could give me 5 months free and the charge would only be $106 after taxes. So I signed back up and they credited my card the difference.
It's not the $77 dollar deal you get in the States but this Canada, we're used to getting hosed.
I'm thinking of trying out Sirius to see if it's any better.

I haven't paid more than $50 for a one year subscription in the last 3 years. I call right before it is about to expire and tell them I am going to cancel it because I rarely use it (which I don't really) and how the sound quality isn't all that great etc.
They supposedly can tell via Onstar how much you listen to XM.

Yea, they may be the same company, but their not all the same stations, thats for damn sure.
XM blows. We have XM in the Av & Sirius in my wife's car. I bought a Sirius SIR-GM1 for the Av too but since the buyout & thought I'd wait & see what happens (since the XM subscription doesn't seem to be expiring for some reason). So far about all I've found that is common between the two is Howeird Stern, the Kenny Chesney channel, and the AC/DC channel.

I just cancelled every one of the family's Sirius(XM) subscriptions and am in the process of putting JVC KT-HDP1's in all the vehicles.
KT-HDP1
http://www.mobile.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028210&pathId=149&page=1
I am impressed with having local radio coupled with the great quality and choices of HD Radio technology. My thinking is like everything else FM was king of it's castle and let it's quality drop. Anyone would be foolish to think any of the big corporations or small companies running any of the terrestrial stations would allow their product to continue to be overshadowed by Sirius(XM). IMO terrestrial radio has taken note and has stepped up it's game in a big way. As I pointed out I enjoy local radio, with the great quality and choice HD Radio technology brings to the industry. What I also like is not supporting a monopoly and even better than that no bill, no charges what so ever to enjoy free radio again.
IMO even if you get a year of XM for $77 it's tough to say what if anything will be left of Sirius(XM) in six months, let alone a year from now. Take that $77 to AC or Vegas you'll have better odd's.
To fellow mod'ers: give HD Radio a try, you just might like what you hear. IMO the upgrade in sound quality alone is worth it.
To GM: instead of your normal leading your going to have to follow the other automakers and jump late on the HD Radio bandwagon giving consumers a better choice when it comes to our OEM radio's. Face it XM bowed down and let itself fail and now thanks to being bought and gutted by Sirius the entire satellite radio industry Sirius(XM) has over a billion dollars of debt, which is bad enough. However also add to that the fact neither XM nor Sirius has ever made a dime and the terrible economy and it's easy to see GM will never, ever make back any of it's large investment in XM.

noticed the programming change for the xm-sirius merger last week, saw we got hair nation along with a couple of other cool stations
still undecided on the alternative programming......definitely don't care for the voiceovers:

Mine expired today and they automatically renewed me at the normal quarterly rate.
I called to cancel tonight and they gave me the special $77 rate again (3rd year straight), with no code, no transferring to other departments, etc.
Can't add best of Sirius though, I tried. I just want the Nascar channel..... oh well.

I just called the 800-967-2346 number and gave her the ZWINBACK code and she said the code wasn't complete, that there was more to it. My 2 year is up this thursday. Looks like another 2 years at $11.33 month.

Just got XM for $77 Winback. They asked for a code, Told them the letter was at home so I didn't know the code.
I also said I really wanted it today as my anniversary was Thursday and I was thinking of dropping XM until the letter came.
They offered me "Lifetime" for $399, but I told them at this time Money was tight. Anyone else get this offer?

Hope you didn't get suckered into taking that one. A "Lifetime" in the satellite radio business these days is about 6 months. Sirius/XM will most likely not make it through 2009, the paying for radio fad is over.

Eggxactly! That is why I reduced my outlay to $77 vice $144 for 2009. So with the AV and wife's DTS only pay $144 total for 2009. No Turnip Truck around here! Plus use the Free Internet link to XM at work.

supraman23,
Either threaten to cancel or really just cancel your subscription(s) all together. You'll be richer and better off in the long run. There is life after satellite radio. Heck sirius/xm most likely won't make it through 2009 anyhow. Give HD Radio or internet radio a shot, you'll be upset you've been sucked into paying for satellite radio for so long.

Ask to cancel, the person at that next department will allow the $77 rate, that's what I did, and I also had the $77 a year for the previous three or four years!
Well worth the $77 - no commercials; many speak of digital/HD "free" radio, and yes may sound good, but they have commercials which is what I am trying to avoid. I know when I listen to a non-satellite radio, the commercials just jump out at me as I am not use to hearing them at all.
As for bundling Sirius, they mentioned that to me, but was not interested, and was not a small fee (it added some sports, and talk radio, all of which I do not use.)

*News Flash*
Satellite radio has commercials and your paying to listen to them, even on the music channels "with no commercials" there are commercials for satellite radio and your paying to listen to those too. On FM/HD/Internet radio i.m.o. some commercials are welcome as I understand they pay for my ability to listen to the station for free and it's usually local commercials which allows one to stay in touch with what's going on in our local area's and communities. With HD radio or internet radio we have the ability to side step commercials by changing to one of the many other exciting, fresh digital channels all for free, backed by the proven business model of about 100 years.
On the flip side satellite radio has never made a dime, claimed they needed to merge, and is billions in debt (with more and more debt growing by the day) with no possible way to pay back or refinance, which all points to 2009 being a very good year to be the end of siriusxm. GM should take the complete loss and completely cut all it's ties to DOA satellite radio once and for all. Less than 1/2 of vehicles with factory satellite radio subscribe to satellite radio after the free period ends. GM needs to listen and service the majority of it's customers instead of continuing investment ties with a soon to be extinct industry.
Also regular FM radio, and even more so HD Radio and Internet Radio completely trump satellite radio when it comes to sound quality, all for FREE

I am right there with you on that Brother! I have made 20+ trips between Huntsville AL and Eatontown NJ over the past 18 months, moving a household. There were many nights that the XM made bearable while running the inland route through the mountains and valleys. FM and AM didn't cut it.
Also the Comedy Channels are good for great laughs which supplys major oxygen to the brain and fights off the sandman!

Forget about siriusxm like everyone else is. Your customer service rep must also have seen the writing on the walls and understands reality. She i saving you a whole lot of money and hassle as siriusxm most likely won't make it through 2009. I've been reading that siriusxm is just playing back much of it's "talent" shows from their primary jobs in other forms of media like TV, Internet and FM Radio. Paying for what others are enjoying for free.
It's ok to hold different opinions of siriusxm, it's just that some have already seen what was once a promise turn into a complete anti-consumer mess which is getting worse and worse.
I'd call and thank the kind siriusxm agent for helping you make up your mind, and her suttle hint for you to jump on the FM, HD, Internet radio life raft and jump far away from the siriusxm sinking ship.

Apparently not, when anyone inquires on the specials for XM, your postings appear not answer the question, but are to bash XM. I have no loyalty to XM, Sirius, FM, AM, etc - for me, and apparently many others, we enjoy the offerings and convenience of XM.

Like I wrote in an earlier posting, it worked for me, and I have renewed with the $77 WinBack for at least three years. Not sure I have any other firsthand advice at this point as I have never gotten to where you are now. Perhaps wait a bit to see if they contact you to rejoin?

No not to "bash".
To warn, and to spread the knowledge and truth about siriusxm, and help people save their hard earned money. Funny you mention the "convenience of XM" your right about that! Siriusxm make it so convenient people forget how much siriusxm costs. But thats exactly what siriusxm wants people to do, put it on a credit card and forget about it. Siriusxm even makes it more convenient for people, siriusxm will auto-renew you till you realize paying for radio is silly and call them to cancel. It's all very convenient, too convenient, especially in a poor economy. Would you pay retail $12.95 for this convenience? $155.40 a year? Over $300 a year when you pay for 2 radios? I guess it comes down to if it's such a convenience perhaps all subscribers should step up and pay retail it's the only fair thing. That is if one feels paying for radio is a smart idea, especially one with all the problems of siriusxm.

^ i hear what your saying. but for me $77 a year is fair enough for me personally. maybe not for all but for me its fair. my next step is to put my radio ID on my buddys demo account from his store which is free with up to 5 radios.
all i need it for is 1 more year as my avy will be ready to retire and get a new one. from there ill start all over and rethink what i want at that point.
for those who got the $77 year rate and have had it for 2 or more years what exactly did you say on the phone? they kept going back to "coupon code sir" and saying "you already had this 1 time promo twice"
should i just ask for the retention dept? they didnt acknoledge what i was saying when i said "zwinback" either.
thanks in advance. and im sure all these posts helps others in the future as well.

Called to cancel XM Radio today. I had paid for 1 year in December. They just happened to have a special where I could get 5 months for $19.99. That's $4 a month instead of the $12.95 I have been paying. Could have added another 5 months for the same price. I also get $107 refund on the other plan. Didn't have to mention "winback". Hope this will help someone get a lower price. The contract says they could charge $75 to cancel, and that was not the case for me.

They just didn't want to issue you a refund. They just might be gone in 5 months. Sure wouldn't pre-pay a subscription more than 3 months at the rate sirius xm is falling to the ground.

they would not give us any offers until we actually said "we want to cancel our account" .... then all of sudden we could get the offers ....
we got $77 for the truck for a year and $20 for 5 months on the car ....
this after our qtr payment went up another $9 dollars for "music royality fees" ....
what a crock .... wife was on the phone with them for over 30 minutes .... grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I never paid much attention to XM radio. However, after getting the Silverado a few weeks ago I activated On*, when I got the first email it seems I also got 3 months of XM free. I gotta admit I'm liking it, havn't listed to FM in two weeks. Just not sure if I'm liking it enough to pay for it.

I just got an invoice today to renew a 2yr contract for $341. I am thinking about cancelling and see if they can give me a special offer. I basically listen to the 80's channel. At Thanksgiving I switch over and listen to Christmas music until Janauary 1st.

I just called them today, since I got another bill. The lady said they charged my credit card $341.60. I said I am not paying that and I want to cancel. She transferred me to someone else, I told them I would like to cancel and she asked the reason in which I said the bill is way too high. She said there is a special promotion of 5 months for $23.00 in which I accepted.

At least XM sent me a cancelation notice before they auto-debit renewed me a while back.
I kept OnStar for 2 years but canceled and have kept XM since June '04
GM employees/retirees should get a discount but you may have to remind them. No different than other companies like cell phone providers that offer GM/UAW, military or other discounts, thier computers will charge you the full rate at inception or renewal so you have to let them know. They'll usually credit you back if call them and ask. Think how many people don't bother or forget, companies make huge $$$ offering discounts eligble customers never take advantage of.

Just renewed at $20 for five (5) months (plus taxes). Came out to approx $4.62 a month. Thought that was a good deal. I called cancellations directly at: (800) 347-0600
(updated number)
Told them my account was expiring and I wanted to make sure I did not auto renew, etc. They asked why, said cost. They offered $77 a year plus royalty fees for a total of approx $83 per year (= $6.90 per month). I said that was still too high. They then offered the 5 months for $20 (= $4.62 a month).
Thanks again to Chief for starting this thread

I got my radio turned on the 20 buck deal for 5 months. They waived the 14 buck activation fee. It came out to be 23.05
So I'm happy for 5 months at least.

And since the merger they have been dropping off the cliff as more and more consumers realize paying for radio, to say nothing of the major drop in siriusxm's programming quality, is a poor way to spend hard earned money. Even at 4.62 a month they are ripping people off. Hey Flint4x4 maybe 2010 will be the final year of the mess known as satellite radio, they still have yet to make a dime. Sure hope GM is ready to roll out Pandora and HD by then, as we all know the general was a little late to the aux in party.

CavNY, I wasn't trying to argue XM/Serius isn't overpriced and losing money.
investors put a ton of money into it, I don't see how they can afford to let it fail yet. It's not much different than when my 401k tanked last year, I lost 12% of my savings but stayed the course and kept buying in at a lower price, I'm almost even now.
I may be stubborn but I do know one thing, if you quit when you are losing then you lost for certain.
it is a fine line though CavNY, I don't like to bet on a dead horse

I have been doing the $20.00, 5 month deal for 3 times on 2 radios already. When my time is up I call and redo the deal. I am also getting the $77.00 deal on my main radio, xmp3.

Okay..........my main radio 1 year deal is up. I last paid $84? last time. I called today, back to back deal are no longer accepted. New rate would be $151.80 for a year. I have 2 other radios I am paying $25.00 for 5 months each, which is okay. Are there any other deal out there for a 1 year, main radio rate?

well i am going on 14 months of service from a 3 month trial, the system is still active, I have never been charged nor provided any information to them..
I tried calling once and they told me the radio esn didn't match my vin (radio was changed due to onstar problem) and they needed the dealer to update the radio ID in their system, dealer said they don't know anything about that..
Still works so I am not complaining, I tried several times to remedy the problem and got the run around..
