Braided transmission cooler lines?

I noticed that one of my cooler lines is leaking, seams to be a common problem.  From what I've read, this repair is a major PITA.  Has anyone cut the flexible tubing out and replaced it with braided line and AN fittings?  If so, please advise on hose/fitting sizes.

Two ways to do it with AN fittings and braided hose.. IMO the second method is better as the compression fittings used in the first will reduce the line a little bit. The second requires more pieces, a few more steps and a 37 degree flare tool available from summit.

6AN to 3/8 tube fitting on each end of tube. Then 6AN hose fittings and hose.

Or

6AN-3/8 tube nut and sleeve on each end of tube. Then 6AN hose ends and 6AN hose. You will also need a 37 degree flare tool for this method.

I was thinking of going the pre-fab route and add the tube adapters like you mentioned to the hard tubing;

$100 in parts versus $30 for the stock lines but if I understand this is a frustrating job, its worth it to me

Those work fine, saves a little time just need the tube fittings..

Most frustrating part is getting the clips back on that secure the lines to the transmission.  They are the same clips used to secure the lines to the radiator but access to the radiator positions is MUCH better.

Ain't that the truth... On my 2500 the exhaust is in the way and getting to them is a one handed, blind, lying on your back operation. PITA..

Pretty much the same on the 1500s...  :E:
