I was backing out of my driveway to take my teenager to driving lessons of all things and swiped another car in the driveway, denting the front passenger side fender and bending the plastic front bumper. The body shop wants to replace both. The truck is a 2007 Avalance and it is white. I was thinking of trying to save a bit of money and replace both myself with ones that are already painted, or just replace the fender and try to bend back into shape the plastic bumper, maybe with heat. The truck has high mileage and some other dings so it doesn't need to be perfect.
1) How does the front fender come off?
2) if I were to buy a fender off the Internet and have it painted at a shop before I install it (rather than having it blended in with the other panels like the body shop wants to do) am I asking for trouble with matching the paint or should it be close enough?
