Most aftermarket radios will install fine but you need to find one that is compatible with steering wheel controls. The unmentioned option is Onstar. if you have Onstar you may need a different module.

You also have an Amplifier buried in your middle console.

You need an adapter to incorporate any new radio and expect to pay over $100 for it.
The radio is connected to the Steering wheel controls and door chimes along with Onstar if your truck has it.

I bought a module that would work in my '03 Avalanche with BOSE for $50 through Amazon but does not have steering wheel controls nor onstar. If you want steering wheel controls and onstar (which won't work anyhow) then I believe the module is closer to $200 depending on where you go.

Crutchfield is a good resource for them. (I actually found the module I needed on Crutchfield and searched amazon for it..)
PAC's website is here:

A brief look showed different items available. You don't likely have the Y91 option.
The two most likely options that i saw were the following:

RP4-GM11 with out Onstar $199.95 retail : http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=1129&CategoryID=26
RP5-GM11 With onstar $229.95 Retail (Note onstar prior to 2006 is not compatible and can not be turned on... Not sure if you can use the RP4-GM11 interface instead) : http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=1170&CategoryID=26

The steering wheel module comes with the Chimes and RAP. Without RAP you can't turn the radio on. RAP = Retained Accessory Power and comes from the data bus. That is where you turn the key off but radio still plays. You CAN pull the power from the ignition switch for ignition power but you will only have radio power when the key is on.

Radio and Xm Mod?

ok so would this be the way for me to go? part # OS-2X  here's the link http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=1302&CategoryID=26
