I'm trying to get information on whether you can tow a 2006 avalanche behind an RV on all four wheels.  I have heard yes and I have heard no. Any comments?

First welcome,

I think towing of the AV may be mentioned in the owners manual. If you don't have one it can be found in the resources section on this site and I personally would follow advice from GM/Chevy on towing.

I believe you need to remove the rear drive shaft and if 4x4 put the transfer case in neutral.  Should be in the owner's manual.

Remove the rear driveshaft? If you put the transfer case in neutral everything is in neutral... Read the link Dalefan posted above, there is no need to remove the driveshaft.

My advice is to make sure you have a steering lock, I've seen some where they no longer have the lock in the column. You can do this by trying to turn the wheel with the key off (front wheels in the air is easiest), and it should get to a point where it locks.

I have towed mine a couple times. Just hitch it up to the tow vehicle and put the transfer case in neutral. Their is no longer a stearing lock so once you have the transfer case in neutral you can turn your avalanche off and remove the key.

No longer a steering lock? What do you mean? Are you referring to flat towing or dolly?

I pretty sure he means you can turn the steering wheel with the key out.

But you better have some big guns to do it.

Flat tow. They removed the string lock so that the vehical that is being towed can turn with the vehicle doing the towing. That is why you have to have a triangular tow bar to keep the towed vehical in line behind the tow vehical while going straight. And when you turn, just through simple physics, the towe'd vehicals front wheels will follow suit.
