When I accelerate from a stop I hear a short "groan" noise from the engine on the left side in my 2005 Avalanche. It only lasts for a second and doesn't happen every time. Any suggestions on what I should check?  Thanks.

I wonder if it's your ABS pump.

Does it ever flash traction active at you when it does? If not, it likely will start soon. Mine started with just the ABS pump kicking in... Then traction active... Then traction active with power to the engine killed.

Likely culprit is a wheel speed sensor on one of your front hubs. I was having this issue very often. Changed both front hubs, no issues since

Well, I had a friend/mechanic check it out. The right front wheel speed sensor was operating slower than the others.  He suggested just  the hub assembly on that side for now.

Thanks for the help  --  you were correct that it had to do with the ABS and traction.
