Key Fob requires key to unlock door to work

I have a 2007 Chevy Avalanche.  In the past two weeks the key fob stopped working correctly.
So far I have changed the key fob battery and followed the auto learn procedure with no luck.
Here is what I know:
If I unlock the door with the actual key, the key fob works correctly.
Then after a short period of time it does not work unless I use the key again.

My guess is that the software for the lock/unlock times out then the key is required to reset the software.

How do I resolve this issue?
TY,
Don

Does this happen with both of your fobs?
My Grand Prix used to consume a fob a year, not sure why, it just did.
