Hey Everyone,

So first off let me apologize if this has been covered before and I just couldn't find it with all of my searching.

Yesterday I ordered this for my AV

I ordered the wire harness and the bracket for it.  I understand from reading in the owners manual that when you pull the stock head unit, you loose your door chimes and auto vol.  The auto vol from what I understand with a new HU is really a mute point since the new units are better.  But the chimes I feel are needed.  I've been searching through metra at the different modules that they make to enable the chimes and here are the units that I've found

I don't know if I have an amp or not.  I'm guessing that I don't since I'm just a plain ole stock av.  Which I'm perfectly happy with I don't have Sirrus/XM, no bose system, no onstar.

If you could point me in the direction of which module I will need to retain my chimes (and if it does auto vol great) it would be greatly appreciated.  Once again I apologize if I'm beating a dead horse but a lot of people talk about On Star or the Bose systems I'm having a hard time finding someone in my shoes.  Thanks.

This is the harness i used... it is not very loud so i put the chime part by the cluster so it was more audible for the driver

you will also need a harness if you have steering wheel controls...

My 02 without the Bose premium sound system still had an amp with the stock radio.
It is a small piece of crap that is placed behind the glove box.

There's a thread on here about bypassing that amp as aftermarket radios sound worse with it than without.
I did the bypass myself and I can attest to the difference in sound quality.

EDIT: Never mind. I just found the thread and this mod is specific to the 02 model only.

Yeah I went out to my truck at lunch and pulled back the glove box.  There is nothing behind it but the HVAC duct

Ok ordered the unit from Crutchfield.  I was thinking about video taping the whole process.  Would anyone be interested in this?

Good man, i was just thinking about replacing my head unit for the exact same pioneer as yours, great deals right now and the added benefit of the hands free phone is going to be awesome, since i have the same basic set up as yours, i would appreciate learning from your experience!

Ok the new radio is installed and as promised I did a video for it.  The video can be found here http://youtu.be/cHV1_NWdRUc

Let me know if you have any questions.

Here are the parts that you'll need
Wire Harness/Chimes

Ok so small issue that is kind of annoying.  So with the new radio installed whenever I jump in and just fire it right up the radio will not turn on.  However if I turn the ACC on and let the radio turn on for a few secs and then fire the truck up the radio will stay on.  If the radio does not come on I have to pop the hood and pull the radio fuse and plug it back in then everything is fine.  Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is the case?  Thanks.

So I called Crutchfield tech support and their sending me a replacement unit.  They believe that everything is installed properly so we'll see what happens when the new unit comes in.  First I'll try just swapping out the unit and if the problem remains then I'll swap out the wiring harness.

I'd get a multimeter while waiting for the replacement unit and start testing all the wires in the wiring harness to ensure there is continuity.

Thanks a lot for posting the instructional, hopefully it works tip top for you with the new parts.
