I have a 2002 avalanche and want to replace the speakers, and maybe eventually put a little sub underneath the backseat. Dont want to do nothing too over the top.

Right now tho I just want to replace the front speakers and back speakers because they arent working very well anymore. Everything is factory at the moment.

So for the questions:
Can I just replace the speakers with no issues?
If I cant what do I have to do? Do i need to replace the radio?
Does anyone have any links that would help me do this?
or any recommendations for brands of speakers?
What size of speakers does the 2002 have? Ive googled this but gotten two different results.

oh and Total for sub, radio, amp and speakers id like to keep it under 500$. Just want decent sound quality nothing crazy.

Sorry if these questions are really basic.

The 02 has 6.5" speakers if my memory is correct. I have Kicker 6.5 components in all 4 doors. Can probably find them or similar on EBay for a very reasonable price. You  have a separate amp from the head unit, it's located behind the glove box. The wires at the speaker are from the amp so after-market speakers are no problem. When/if you add a sub you can feed it with a separate amp and feed the input signal separately. from the HU. Go to Crutchfield.com and search for 2002 Avalanche. They used to have the wiring diagram and step by step instructions for door removal. I have them in the filing cabinet so if you can't get them from crutchfield or 12volt.com I'll scan em and send them to you. The Premier low profile sub is the easiest to use under the seat and still maintain some use of the midgate.

this is for door handle replacement, but good write up/pics on rear door panel removal

6.5" is what I believe they are also

Thanks for all the replies guys. Its is not a bose system. Oh and I dont ever use the midgate, I just need to be able to put the seat down. Also, what kind of receiver should I get? I will need to replace it because the cd player is acting wonky. Just the factory regular one. Give me a few minutes/hours to digest everything and ill post some of my own ideas, maybe a few more questions, and some parts im looking at. Thanks!

Oh another quick question, how do I go about installing a new stereo? Is there anything special I need to do or is it just plug and play?
EDIT:

Alright how would 4 of these guys do?

best to find a store and give a listen, I've had good luck with Kenwood recievers  (y)

oh great. About the receiver, can I simply unplug the factory one and put in the kenwood?

oh you think this would fit under the back seat?

they sell a plug for wiring in the headunit. wire it to the headunit and plug it right in pretty simple. they sell boxes specially made for under the back seat, not sure how cheap you can get em tho. you have this stuff picked out but 1. still need a amp for the sub. 2. these things will not be as loud as what stock is right now. check this stuff out to just replace your door speakers no need for an amp to them. get the same headunit that you had in mind and pick up a box like this and a shallow mount sub. then just 1 amp wireing kit and you're good.   total = 460 (not including wireing kit)

hey thanks for that. In my post above yours I linked an amp. Does what you say still apply?
And what do you mean by what I linked too wont be loud?

the amp you had picked out was only a 35x4 amp. the speakers you had picked was 4ohm speakers. the speakers i picked out are 2ohm speakers they'll need only need 18watts to get the same sound as the 4ohm speaker will get. so putting in that amp you had and those speakers you had, wouldn't make it any louder than your stock system. you'd be wasting the money on the amp by getting it. so in this case with the speakers i put out there you don't need that 35x4 amp. if you want to spend more money you can still pick up that amp around those infinity speakers. rms on those speakers is 75watts, that amp (which will be then running @ 2ohms) will be pushing 50x4. and since it's a kicker it'll be pushing a little more than that even. probibly more around the 75watts that those speakers can handle. you just said you wanted to spend only $500 so i was thinking keep the amp out of it. if you choose to get that amp as well, only go that route if you can get it that cheap. if not here's another alternative. 5 channel amp, with the 2ohm door speakers and running the sub @ 2ohms, this amp is 85x4 + 420x1 which is perfect for all those speakers.

this last link do i need to order 2? or 4?

you'll need to order 2 so you'll have a front set and a back set. that kicker amp will come with a birthsheet that will tell you actual tested watts. it'll probibly read around 400 which is still fine, that sub's rms rating is 400watts. you could put 450 to it and be good. just so you don't open it and worry that it won't work.

awesome, this sounds great.
what kind of performance could I expect from this setup?
also do I need tweeters? or would i be leaving the stock ones in?

also do you have a link for the plug to the headunit?
I was looking for it on crutchfield but couldnt find it. Im not even sure what im looking for because there are so many different plugs.

crutchfield as a site that will send you the plug and installation kit for free when you buy any headunit. sonic electronix site does the same thing. no you won't need tweeters those speakers are 2way speakers. i put these things together cause it's the cheapest way to really do it and still be loud as stock. if you said hey i want a louder system and i have 1000 bux to spend on it i'd get a whole different list. then i'd say ok here get some of these components run more power to them yada yada. systems are how much you have to spend on em.  now if you would say, hey i've got 500 now and add pieces later when i get money to make a great system then that'd be another totally different list.

how much better could I get with a budget of say 800? would it be noticeably better or would it be better to go with what you've linked now and then later go to something in the 1000+ range?

see how addicting this can get? if you don't mind getting a refurbished amp, i'd go with the 1kicker 5channel amp 700.5 for $250 it'll be easier to run the wiring. only running the power to the sub and not the door speakers you're looking at $610. you want to power these speakers you're looking at $800 (kicker 700.5amp replaces 300.1amp bigger install kit and 2 sets more of rca's).  a set of components instead of infinity speakers, kicker 650.4 & kicker 300.1 to instead of kicker 700.5, duel amp wiring kit =$1200. the bigger system you want, the more you can get it in pieces and add to it later on. like say something 1200 or more, you can get headunit, door component speakers and amp for them now, later on pick up the other things. if you plan on getting things later then don't spend the money on the infinity's cause you'll have wasted your money on them.

well I dont want something super loud,  I just want better sound quality. I have a great sound system in my living room and my computer and going to my avalanche in which the cd player barely works is extremely disheartening.

ill post these again to stay relevant. But are there any better door speakers I could get for this setup that would improve sound quality and still stay within a 500 - 700 dollar budget?

Yea trust me, I know all about upgrading and building systems and how addictive it can get. I build my pc's and it tends to get the same way.

i believe these are the only 2ohm speakers that you can get. any other speakers will be alot more quiet because you won't be running an amp to them they'll just be strictly off the stock wiring which will be the 20or so watts from the radio.

Oh ok so if I get a better amp I could get some better speakers?
I thought with that amp I had linked I could run the speakers through them.  I'm guessing I can't right?

$600 range = radio, infinity door speakers (no amp), sub, box, kicker 300.1 sub amp, 1 amp wiring kit....
$800 range = radio, infinity door speakers kicker 700.1 amp (or kicker 200.4 + 300.1amp), sub, box, 1 duel amp wireing kit, 2 more rca lines...
kicker 700.5 = 85x4 + 420x1..... referb= $250....new = $315    1 4g wireing kit + 2 sets of rca's        <----my suggestion best set up for $800
kicker 200.4 = 50x4 $100 .... + kicker 300.1 = 300x1 $150      1 4g duel amp wireing kit + 2 sets of rca's

best i can come up with for 800 yes you can get that amp and put it to those speakers if you'd like. my setup suggestion will max out all of those speakers where is yours you'd be feeding around %75 of the speakers potential.
