Why is the MPG bad, relatively to the RAM.

Hi all,
I understand that the RAM is newer. I was a passenger in a 2019 (possibly a 2020) Dodge Ram Laramie Long Horn (basically the top of the line, luxury truck). Very nice and comfortable, What surprised me was when the driver told me that he gets mid 20s in the city, and high 20s on the highway. I had to look it up.

From Google:

Ram 22/32 MPG, 5200-5400 lbs
AV 15/21 MPG, 5800-6000 lbs

I guess the weight difference, and newer tech in the engine are the difference makers.
I don't drive the AV much, so I'm not complaining about gas mileage, just something to discuss.

what engine is in it?

My DD Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and the 8 speed transmission realistically got 19.5 to 20 or so average
mpg in combined city/hwy mpg. Newer technology and two more gears helps as well.

You buddy is likely going straight off what the display in the truck tells him, they tend to be a bit
optimistic..

You're comparing a 2020 RAM and the Avalanche which really is an early 2000s design.

vs.

I bet that ram doesn't have 8.1 liters of pure ethanol chugging rage under the hood.. I bet that ram can't submit Chuck Norris in a gas drinking contest. Just stating facts here folks that's all..

Your 8.1 Avalanche goes from truck to tool. It is an absolute beast of a machine. I am shocked you get that good. Considering its capability and comfort. What a machine.
